so i started work at xerox today (my new, new job). and i'm doing mail room work. it's not so bad. it's fairly simple and i can bring my walkman and pop on my headphones when it gets dull. but there's been something on my mind for the past week or so and i always think about it at work. i thought about it especially today. i used to think that a good 75% of humans out there were funny or relatively funny. but after working with older women and semi-annoying and semi-strange people for a couple weeks, that number has gotta be more like 8%. these people at work laugh at the dumbest things. i don't get it. it's cool if you're in a good mood or whatever, but if the joke is bad, simple, predictable, or doesn't make any logical sense, you don't have to laugh. there's a kid at this new job who just says the dumbest things and everyone laughs. i'm just like "heh, yeah..." still waiting for the punchline. i mean, jokes that are predictable and laim, just aren't funny to me. if a guy ran by our doorway at work every 20 mintues while set on fire, that would be funny. the stuff these people say just isn't. i used to have more faith in the world, considering that most, if not all my friends are funny, but i've kinda realized that there are a lot more non-funny people out there than i thought. people like you and me are a rare breed i guess.

goin to ithaca this weekend for cortica jug. psyched as all hell. i haven't been out in a while. these fools will be there...

and last but not least, maroon 5 is a good band.

over this past weekend was the little shop of horrors gig. i forgot how much i loved playing shows and meeting other musicians. this was the first time i had played bass in a couple months and it was awesome to finally get out and play again. and on top of that, getting paid for something you love to do is....there's nothing better. after our first show, we all went out for a few drinks. it felt good to talk to other people who have the same outlook on music as i do. everything from how the music industry is, to how much you love playing and how it can change your life. good weekend. good times.

yeah other than that, there aint sheeeeat going on. i need some kind of social life.

well i finally got a job. it's been going alright. it's a lot of typing. i've been at a computer for about 12 hours today and i think i've had enough. for the most part, my job is pretty simple, but it's actually physically hard to sit there for 8+ hours and type. data entry is about as interesting as sand.

the marlins won the world series the other day and i actually picked them to win in 6 games. i'm usually never right about those things.

i'm playing some shows this weekend. it will feel good to play bass again. i've been going through withdrawal. must start band. must play shows. must become rockstar.

happy halloween!

i finally did it. after about 4 years, i retired my ben folds five site. it just got the point where it was no longer fun. between almost getting sued and constantly adding new transcriptions, i think it was best just to do one final update.

i'm going to be playing bass in "little shop of horrors" in cazanovia later this month. it's only for 3 shows, but i'm looking forward to it. it's the first piece of good news i've had since i moved over a month ago.

i've given up on baseball for the season. watching those two game sevens was just too much to handle. scott and i were at moonshadows in ithaca during the big red sox and yankees game 7. even though i was a little out of it, watching the yankees win was just like watching a corporation celebrate their new stock option-equity sharing program. i don't understand how anyone outside of nyc can actually be a yankees fan. go mets.

i have way too much free time now, so i'm going to start writing and recording again. hopefully i'll have something new for ya'll up soon.

and this worked when i did it last year, so here goes...

i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job.
i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job.
i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job.
i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job. i need a job.

my brother's wedding was awesome. good people, good fam, good times. i'll try to get some pictures of it up here. i have to find one with my dad line dancing with a string of girls. so, yeah it was a lot of fun. and i have a new sister too. it doesn't get any better than that.

i sti ll don't have a job, but i sent out a few more resumes. e-mails, and made some phone calls, so i hope something turns up here in the next week or so. if i don't find a job by november, i may have to turn back to b'ville.

i don't know how much longer i'm going to keep my ben folds five site around. i'm not going to delete it or anything, but i haven't updated it in a long time and i'm not really having fun with it anymore. i will probably update and fix it up one last time and then call it quits.

baseball post-season is red hot. all the games i've seen have been great. as i said before the all-star break "a sox / cubs world series would be awesome". and that reminds me....

dear fox television - while the cubs are on prime time, and kerry wood is on the mound or sitting on the bench, please stop showing mrs. kerry wood's reaction to everything that happens. thanks.

which brings me to other things i don't want to hear or see anymore...

1 - "are you old enough to vote?"
2 - while buying an r-rated movie in walmart "can i see your id?"
3 - getting weird looks from clerks in liquor stores
4 - "that's the best fake id i've ever seen"
5 - before looking at my id in a bar "uh oh, here we go"

i know i look a little young for my age, but damn.

i'm currently working on joebass123 studios (version 2.0). i don't really have any new equipment, but i'm gonna start saving up right now. i'll need to decide if i want to get a digital multi-track or save up for a new computer. i'm probably leaning towards a digital recorder at this point. i just downloaded a bunch of recording programs (peak, deck, protools, logic, spark) and they are either not what i'm looking for or run too slow on my computer. the digital recorder is cool, but i like being able to see what i'm doing. who knows what i'll do. i need something to replace this four track though. it's gettin me nowhere.

speaking of getting nowhere, congrats to the baldwinsville planning board for approving the demolishion of a factory and the building of yet more shitty retail right in the center of town. i got so pissed off when i heard about the news a week or so ago. i can't remember if i already posted this, but in july i wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper about the issue, before it really started to generate opposition...

I've recently read that the Baldwinsville Planning Board is considering a plan to turn the Gould Pumps site into a retail and drive-through buisness area. I am strongly opposed to this idea. Gould Pumps was one of the few factories operating out of Baldwinsville and it's extremely benificial that we find another buisness to move into that location. There are a million retail and drive-through stores around the country and especially around B'ville. If a buisness cannot be found to move into the Gould Pums area, how about building more store fronts that we can be proud of. For example, like the Masonic building, or Mohecan Manor building. Buildings that are close to the sidewalk and have apartments on the second floors over shops would bring in people to live and walk around town, not just to drive their cars to visit. This would also generate more of a social scene and help improve the econo my of other local buisnesses in the area. Adding drive-throughs would just create more traffic, and that's something that our small town does not need any more of. We have been on the right track since the revitalization of Paper Mill Island. Let's not head in the wrong direction by adding ugly retail buildings and more traffic.

fairly straight forward. but it's almost like the planning board didn't give this drive-through proposal any thought. they didn't even want to wait for another, perhaps an even better one. they just jumped on the first thing that came along. during their meetings, they were mostly concerned with traffic and nearby residents, which is smart and i can understand. but there's more to consider than just that. this move is totally going to effect the character of the village. if people really want retail, they can just drive north for about 10 minutes and find an endless line of box stores (walmart, target, sams, the list goes on...). towns across america are getting more and more cluttered by cars, urban spral, housing developments, and chain stores. it's now even infecting the small town of baldwinsville, ny.

in a way, this move has made me more determined to get involved in town planning.

yes, this is a long rambling. and i got more!

not having a job has given me a lot of time to goof off and daydream and shit. one of the things i am going to do at some point in my life, maybe within the next 5 to 10 years, is re-open the local movie theater in b'ville. there aren't really than many places where you can go see a movie for $2 anymore, but the tri-county movie theater was one of them. i'm not really sure why it closed, but i assume it was a management thing. if i have a decent amount of money in my future, i'm gonna buy it. ideas go as such...

- charge $2 for movies and $1.50 on wednesdays (just like the old theater)
- repaint, refurnish (get rid of the yellow and orange 1960s vibe)
- clean the floor (since i can remember, the floor in that place has always been a sticky layered coating of artificial flavoring and soda)
- have a "classics" day, where on one day of the week an older movie is shown (star wars, alfred hitchcock, T2, yada yada...)

maybe it's just me, but i think the place could be pretty successful. or maybe i'm just an idiot.

well, it's been a while. but i'm back! i've moved into the new pad with jason and jason and it's going pretty well. just need to get off the couch and find a job.

some words of wisdom...

Floyd781: so how's the house (dooooggggg) ?
JoeBass123: not bad, just been deucing it non stop since i've been here
JoeBass123: i think i'm over deucing
Floyd781: non stop??
Floyd781: nah, cant happen, my man
Floyd781: deucing is a part of LIFE, as we know it
Floyd781: no deuce = no life.
JoeBass123: i don't understand
Floyd781: and ya gotta breathe to live, dog
Floyd781: ya know?!
JoeBass123: that sounds very sheeeee
JoeBass123: ya know?
Floyd781: nah man, nah nah nah
Floyd781: its LIFE, my cat dog!

last weekend was my bro's bachelor party and it rocked. we did a lot of traveling ('cuse, rochester, ithaca) and some drinkin. i did a lot of driving back and forth to compensate for alumni weekend in ithaca. good times.

i kinda stopped writing pop music and have this desire to do classical stuff again and more experemental stuff. i def need some better recording e q for that though. all i have right now is my sheeee four track.
